R.A.B.I - the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution - is a grant-making charity which helps farming people in financial difficulty.
Tailored to individual needs, confidential support is given to working and retired farmers and farm-workers, including state benefits' advice, one-off or regular grants and funding for things like disability equipment, essential household goods and hospital travel costs.
R.A.B.I does not pay business bills but can pay for relief farm staff if, for example, someone is unable to work through illness or a family member is ill.
The charity can help with care home and home-help costs and also runs two residential homes. In addition it can pay for training to allow people to develop skills they can use to get off-farm work to supplement their income.
R.A.B.I supports around 2,000 farming families a year with grants of £2 million. Its work is funded by public donations, money raised at events arranged by its county committees, businesses and community groups.

FCN is a national Christian charity providing pastoral and practical support to farming families during periods of stress and anxiety. Farming is not always the idyllic occupation it appears from the outside with many farming families making do with extremely low incomes whilst often suffering from the effects of overwork. Isolation is a major issue and sadly, all too frequently, farmers suffer from clinical depression which if left uncared for can lead to suicide.
FCN runs a national helpline from 7am to 11pm every day of the year. Talking with someone who understands farming but is not directly involved in their situation is a real relief. Callers can then be referred to a local volunteer who will walk alongside them as they seek to improve their circumstances. This service is free and completely confidential and Volunteers are available for as long as they are needed.
FCN has links with sources of professional expertise which can be brought into a situation as appropriate. FCN's primary objective is to encourage and empower people to make their own decisions and regain their sense of value, purpose and direction.
